I really enjoy working with clay. The idea of creating objects that can tell a story and entertain with the basic components of the Earth is quite satisfying. The sculpture starts as an initial idea, a concept, that grows in imagination and comes from life experience. This concept develops and transforms itself as the clay is worked into shapes, constantly being improvised until a final piece realized.
It takes a different train of thought to create a sculpture. How a piece will look before any work is started, its size, its final color, what shapes will work to convey the expression, how components will come together, how to create something that inspires and impresses at the same time. All these factors meld to create a sculpture.
The technical challenge I employ in my sculpture is that I attempt to make every piece I make a hollow body. That in itself creates something deeper in thought than what you first see. It is both a science and an art.
